Bill was very glad to meet the friends, patients and staff at the Leominster Minor Injuries Unit.

After visiting and hearing everyone’s views Bill firmly believes that a mistake may have been made.

He commented,

“Keeping the Minor Injuries Unit open during the day, whilst welcome, may not be as useful as having it available at night and over weekends. People can visit their doctor and there is public transport to Hereford within normal working hours.

Although I understand the safety challenges posed by the very low numbers passing through the Minor Injuries Unit, I think the hospital has forgotten that out of hours transport to Hereford presents patients with a barrier. This means people will simply not be able to get to the County Hospital – which goes against local needs and provision.

One good thing to come out of our discussion is that the Wye Valley Trust is monitoring usage and I hope that they will consider re-introducing the weekend and evening service as soon as possible.”
