Shortly before Christmas Bill met with convenience store retailers and celebrated the important role of local shops at ACS’s ‘Heart of the Community’ reception.

Heart of the Community is an annual event which brings retailers from across the country face to face with MPs.

Bill said,

“Representing 40% of all rural shops, the convenience sector provides essential goods and services in our communities.

Yet changing consumer habits and a challenging economic climate mean these are tough times for local retailers. It is vital that MPs show support for small businesses, both in Westminster and at home in their constituencies.

ACS Chief Executive James Lowman added:

“We welcome the support of Bill Wiggin MP in recognising the importance of the dozens of convenience stores in North Herefordshire, and the services and jobs they provide. Businesses face many competing challenges, from rising rates and energy bills to increasing pressure from small format supermarkets. It is now more important than ever that MPs engage with their local small business community, and work to ensure Government cuts and new regulations will not harm small business or undermine consumer confidence.”
