Bill is encouraging local residents to take part in this year’s ‘People’s Millions’ programme being run by the Big Lottery Fund and ITV.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of National Lottery Funding and support projects working to inspire, involve and improve their local communities. Over the past eight years more than £27.8m has been awarded to 523 projects across the UK.
This year £3.8 million worth of funding is available. Up to £50,000 (including VAT) will be awarded to four projects in each of ITV’s 19 regional news areas, making 76 awards in total.
Applicants can be:
- a voluntary or community organisation
- a school
- a health body
- branches of organisations or partnerships
‘If you have a great idea for a people friendly, community oriented project and just need a little extra money to get it up and running then the People’s Millions is really worth considering.
It’s an excellent scheme which combines all the benefits of Big Lottery Funding with a public voting system.
Herefordshire has so many inspirational people and so much to offer. I would strongly recommend that anyone who meets the criteria, and could put £50,000 to good use, thinks about getting involved.
Whether or not your bid is ultimately successful, the competition still represents a unique opportunity to mobilise support and generate publicity for your cause.’
The deadline for applications is 13 May 2013. Shortlisted projects will go head-to-head for viewers’ votes on prime time ITV Regional News during the last week of November.
