Bill Wiggin MP is urging the public to support Yarpole Community Shop in the 10th annual ‘Rural Oscars’.

Bill Wiggin MP is supporting Yarpole Community Shop’s bid to be named Champion of Champions in the Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’.

Yarpole Community Shop previously won a UK & Ireland title in the Awards, making them eligible for the Champion of Champions scheme, created to mark the 10th anniversary of the Awards. The prestigious new title is completely dependent on a public vote throughout November.

Bill Wiggin MP has past experience of the Countryside Alliance Awards, at the 2008 ceremony as MP for Leominster he took home the ‘Rural Oscar’ or The Westminster Award for ‘bringing the countryside to Parliament.’

Bill Wiggin MP said: “The Rural Oscars give a great platform to our rural businesses and communities and I am honoured to support them, I was also fortunate enough to win one myself a few years ago which was a very proud moment.

Yarpole Community Shop has also won one before, when it was deservedly voted Best Village Shop & Post Office in the UK at the 2010 Rural Oscars.

I want to see Yarpole Community Shop take the title again and would ask that everyone in North Herefordshire gets behind their bid and vote in November while you have the chance.

You can vote online at from 9am on Saturday 1 November or by post to Countryside Alliance Awards, 367 Kennigton Road, London, SE11 4PT.”

All the award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Parliament in February 2015.
