Bill Wiggin MP is delighted 98.9% of North Herefordshire’s working population are in employment or training.

The latest figures released by the Office of National Statistics this week show the number of unemployed claimants in Bill Wiggin MPs’ North Herefordshire constituency in December 2014 was 464 – a rise of 5 from November 2014 but a fall of 312 compared with December 2013.

Bill Wiggin MP said: “I am delighted that our unemployment rate in North Herefordshire is so low.

It is brilliant news that as 2014 came to a close 312 more of my constituents were in much needed jobs than at the end of the previous year.

Nationally the claimant count was 867,700 in December, down 29,700 on November and down 627,100 since the election.

It is very reassuring that nearly 2.2 million more people are employed in the private sector since the election, with the increase in private sector employment over five times the fall in public sector jobs; and that three quarters of those in work since the election are in full-time jobs – full-time jobs accounted for 83 per cent of the rise in employment over the past year.”

December’s unemployment figure represents a rate of 1.1% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 545th of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment.)
