Bill Wiggin MP revealed today that he is behind the commitment to spend at least 2% of GDP on Defence.

Bill Wiggin MP for North Herefordshire spoke in the House of Commons on Tuesday 24 March when the Secretary of State for Defence, Michael Fallon MP, delivered a statement on the Falkland Islands Defence Review.

Bill Wiggin MP said: “It is vital for the safety of our country that our defence forces are properly funded.

I fully support the commitment to spend at least 2% of GDP on the Defence budget and our armed forces.

In the House of Commons I told the Secretary of State that I had received a book from the Argentinian Ambassador who said the Falkland Islanders did not have the right to self-determination.

I will back the Government increasing the defence budget or doing whatever it takes to ensure the Falkland Islands retain their right to self-determination and remain a British territory, as they wish to do.

Indeed I would support the Government if they wished to increase the percentage of spending on Defence.”
